Divas is celebrated every on 20th June
to commemorate the death anniversary of the maestro Kalaguru
Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Bishnu Prasad Rabha was an Indian
cultural figure from Assam, known for his contributions in the fields of music,
dance, painting, literature as well as political activism. As an advocate of
people's cultural movement, he drew heavily from different genres of classical
and folk cultural traditions. His dancing prowess mesmerised the audience. He
was bestowed the title Kalaguru by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President
of India, and then Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, at Varanashi
following a recital of the Tandava dance there in 1941.
