The Salt March was a major act of nonviolent civil disobedience led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930 against British colonial rule in India.
Gandhi, along with 78 followers, marched around 385 km from Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi in Gujarat to protest the British monopoly and tax on salt.
At the end of the march, Gandhi symbolically broke the colonial law by picking up salt from the seashore. This act inspired widespread protests and civil disobedience across the country, becoming a significant moment in India’s struggle for independence. ✊
