Fifteen personnel from Assam have been recognised for their bravery, dedication and distinguished service on the occasion of Independence Day 2026.
On the proud occasion of India’s Independence Day, the nation takes a moment to recognise the unwavering dedication, bravery and selfless service of its security and emergency personnel.
This year, Assam has a special reason to celebrate, as 15 exceptional personnel from the state have been conferred with prestigious gallantry and service medals.
These annual awards recognise personnel who have rendered valuable service in areas including policing, firefighting, civil defence, home guards and correctional services.

The Sole Recipient: President's Medal for Distinguished Service
The highest honour among Assam's awardees this year went to a senior police official for his exceptional and long-standing contribution to law enforcement.
Inspector General of Police Devojyoti Mukherjee is the sole recipient from Assam to be awarded the prestigious President's Medal for Distinguished Service.
Medal for Meritorious Service – Assam Police
Eleven personnel from the Assam Police were selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service, recognising their consistent devotion to duty, professionalism and contribution to policing.
