Laxman Sivaramakrishnan Retires from Commentary, Cites Self-Respect
Former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has announced his retirement from commentary associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Expressing his disappointment, Sivaramakrishnan stated that despite being involved for over two decades, he was not given key on-field roles such as toss coverage or post-match presentations. He questioned why newer commentators were preferred for pitch reports, toss duties, and presentations—even during the tenure of Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach.
Emphasizing his stance, he said he could not compromise his self-respect to remain in the system, adding that he is unwilling to “suck up” for opportunities.
