Why Iran May Be Calling for a Complete End to the War

As the conflict between the United States and Iran entered its 16th day, Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi said that any initiative leading to a “complete end to the war” would be welcomed. Analysts believe several factors may have prompted this position.

1. Declining Missile and Drone Capacity
Experts suggest that Iran’s stockpile of ballistic missiles and drones may be decreasing after repeated launches during the conflict. A reduced capability could limit Iran’s ability to sustain prolonged military operations.

2. Attacks on Key Economic Infrastructure
Strikes by the United States reportedly targeted Kharg Island, which is a major hub for Iran’s oil exports. Damage to this facility could severely impact Iran’s oil revenue and overall economy.

3. Economic Pressure and Currency Fall
The war has also intensified economic stress within Iran, including a weakening national currency and rising inflation. These financial pressures can increase domestic challenges and make a prolonged conflict harder to sustain.

Because of these combined military and economic constraints, analysts believe Iran may now be more open to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war.
