A significant portion of India’s piped natural gas (PNG) supply comes from the deepwater Krishna-Godavari Basin, particularly from three major fields—R Cluster, Satellites Cluster, and MJ. Together, these fields contribute around 25% of the country’s total natural gas production.

In addition, onshore gas fields in Assam and Tripura account for nearly 13% of production, making them important regional contributors.

Amid supply concerns triggered by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting LPG availability, the Indian government has been actively promoting PNG as a more stable and cleaner alternative fuel.
